POTTERY CLASSES TO BEGIN AT Gallery@112
Dive in! Get a little dirty! Have fun! Come learn all about the creative potential of clay in our “Adventures in Clay” Hand Building Class taught by Norma Williams of Pleasant Nest Pottery in Mangum, OK. This will be a “hands-on” three-week course meeting weekly beginning Saturday June 11, from 9:00 to 12:00 at the Gallery@112 , located at 112 West Main in downtown Sayre, OK.
Learn basic skills for hand-built pottery through a series of projects and demonstrations. This class will introduce the three basic methods of hand building (coiling, pinching and slab building) to provide the foundation for any clay project you can imagine. The focus will be on slab, or flat pieces of clay. Rigid or flexible, slabs lend themselves to many different forms, from functional dinnerware to decorative/sculptural art. Using soft slabs of clay and a variety of hand tools, students will be inspired to explore shape, surface texture and design in clay. Class-size is small, ensuring plenty of student-to teacher contact time. Tuition is $95 and includes all instruction, clay, glaze and firing. There is also an $8 fee for an individual tool kit. A children’s clay class is also planned for July, dates TBA. To register or for more information contact the Gallery@112 (928-0002). The Gallery@112 is operated by the Rivers Edge Arts Society, a nonprofit 501c3 corporation with a mission of promoting the arts in western Oklahoma.
